Personal profile

George Hong Jiang is a research fellow at the Max Weber Institute of Sociology, University of Heidelberg, and an assistant researcher at the School of Economics, Peking University. Jiang was previously a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Sociology, University of Cambridge, and holds a PhD in Economics from Goethe University Frankfurt. His main research interests lie in political economy, economic history, history of economic thought, and sociological theory. In 2023, his English-language monograph The Imperial Mode of China: An Analytical Reconstruction of Chinese Economic History was published by Palgrave Macmillan. His articles have appeared in journals such as The China Journal, Asian Studies Review, German Studies Review, Journal of the History of Economic Thought, Economic and Social History Review, Political Economy Quarterly, and China Rundschau, etc.
